Virtualization is the use of software to simulate the behavior of computer hardware, allowing for multiple operating systems and applications to run on a single physical machine. Virtualization can be used for both servers and desktop computers, and it can provide several benefits for businesses of all types.

One of the key benefits of IT virtualization is the ability to increase the utilization of existing hardware. With traditional, non-virtualized IT environments, each physical server or desktop computer can only run a single operating system and set of applications. Virtualization allows multiple virtual machines (VMs) to run on a single physical machine, increasing the number of applications and operating systems that can be run on that machine. This can help businesses to reduce the number of physical servers and desktops they need to purchase and maintain, leading to cost savings.

Another benefit of IT virtualization is the ability to easily move VMs between physical machines. This can be useful for businesses that need to frequently move their IT infrastructure, such as those that are expanding or downsizing. Virtualization also allows businesses to easily move VMs between on-premises and cloud-based environments, making it easier to take advantage of cloud computing services.

In addition, virtualization also provides businesses with increased flexibility in terms of software and operating system deployment. Virtualization allows businesses to run multiple different operating systems on a single physical machine, which can be useful for businesses that need to support a variety of different applications or software that requires different operating systems. Virtualization also allows businesses to easily deploy new software and updates, as VMs can be easily created, modified, and deleted as needed.

In terms of disaster recovery and business continuity, IT virtualization provides a simple and effective solution. By using virtualization, businesses can easily create a backup copy of their VMs, which can be used to quickly restore operations in the event of a disaster. Virtualization also allows businesses to quickly move VMs between physical locations, which can be useful for maintaining continuity of operations during a disaster.

If you are considering migrating from your existing virtualization platform or virtualizing from scratch for the first time, there’s a better way to do it. Whether you are looking at a single location or implementing an edge computing platform across hundreds of sites, an Alpha Technologies virtualization solution (utilizing the Scale Computing platform) is the shortest path to affordable virtualization that’s easy to deploy, easy to manage, and easy to scale.

Many Hyperconverged Infrastructure solutions on the market today don’t “scale down” well due to their high system overhead needs but an Alpha Technologies Scale Computing solution can run efficiently on everything from small form factor, low-cost “edge” devices and scale up to high-performance NVMe, GPUs and ultra-fast networking based on your evolving needs. With powerful flexibility and scalability features, there’s no need to over-provision at the outset (or ever) which is a major source of cost savings over traditional cluster configurations. Its right-sized footprint means there’s no reason to “go big or go home.” Thanks to an innovative, lightweight platform, you get powerful virtualization at a fraction of the processing overhead of competing solutions.

The Alpha Tech SC//Platform solution is a complete stack, including KVM hypervisor, tightly integrated software-defined storage and HyperCore management software, and it’s priced right for any size organization or implementation. It’s integrated to include everything you need for a strong and stable IT infrastructure platform, which means there are no additional third-party licensing costs or extra costs for extra hypervisor features. Saving time (and money) by eliminating virtualization license management and renewals. You get flexibility, scalability, high availability, and built-in disaster recovery in one platform.

As with any migration, moving to a new virtual Platform can take many forms, from non-disruptive in-place migrations to do-it-yourself migrations using free migration tools. Alpha Technologies can provide the level of help you need, whether that’s showing you how to do it, migrating a single VM, or migrating every VM and workload in your environment. With different levels of service and support you can develop a migration strategy that works for your organization.

Overall, IT virtualization is a powerful technology that can provide several benefits for businesses of all types. By increasing the utilization of existing hardware, easily moving VMs between physical machines, and providing increased flexibility in terms of software and operating system deployment, virtualization can help businesses to save costs, increase efficiency, and improve disaster recovery and business continuity capabilities.

It's important to note that the implementation of virtualization comes with its own set of challenges, such as virtualization management and security. Alpha Technologies can help. We ensure that all issues are addressed properly so your organization can fully benefit from the advantages provided by virtualization. When you implement your virtualization solution with Alpha Technologies, you will have the advantage of our experienced IT professionals on your side to ensure that your implementation is done correctly and that your virtualization environment is properly secured.

WHAT IS A HYPERVISOR?

A hypervisor is a type of software that allows multiple virtual machines (VMs) to share a single physical server. Each VM runs its own operating system (OS) and can be configured with its own set of virtual resources, such as CPU, memory, and storage. The hypervisor acts as a layer of abstraction between the physical hardware and the VMs, allowing them to share resources while remaining isolated from one another. This allows businesses to maximize their hardware resources and run multiple workloads on a single server, which can save costs and improve efficiency.  Learn more with the link below.
